At approximately 1110 pm on April 25, 2022 Rural Metro Fire Department responded to the 200 block of West Amherst Street, San Tan Valley, AZ, for a report of a house fire.
First arriving Engine Crews observed heavy smoke and flames from the roof. Crews quickly confirmed all occupants had evacuated from the home and made an aggressive interior fire attack. Inside the home, crew members confronted heavy black smoke and fire through the roof. Shortly after initiating their interior fire attack, the home suffered a partial roof collapse, forcing crews to evacuate the interior and transition the fire attack, defensive.
Initial reports indicate the residents were alerted to the fire when the homes smoke/fire alarms activated shortly after 1100 pm. The occupants were able to safely evacuate the home prior to Rural Metros arrival.
No injuries were reported.
Initial indications are that the origin of the fire may have been, rags used to apply Linseed oil spontaneously combusting inside the garage. However, no official cause has been identified.
Any investigation would be conducted by Pinal County Sheriff's Office.
